Climate change and unfolding neoliberal policies in the post-truth era have already begun dismantling the infrastructures of sedentary life. As sedentary life becomes more episodic on the horizon, initiators’ new platforms mainly target migrants and nomads. Borders mold subjectivity should not be a new idea for readers of this post. I argue that in the digitized context, one may easily find oneself on the digital nomad and connected migrant spectrum.
Description of various applications of border technologies seems mainly contributing to the digitalization of neoliberal subjectivities. Biometrics, among other elements of digital migration, solutions molding and signaling about what should be expected due to such subjugation of individuals worldwide. We discussed more technologies employed around Europe during the lecture presentations, and speed presentations provided comparable cases from other border places.
However, superpower nation-states continue fighting for extension and maintenance of their borders not only on the ground, water, or air by justification through the coercive conceptualization of security according to neoliberal orders. Digital borders are becoming contested as much as any other conventional borders. We can clearly induce from our two weeks-long rich discussions that errors in the generation of border technologies terrorize life. For instance: many presenters discussed bare life.
I assume the generation and application of any technology consist of two intermediary steps; test and trend. Considering premises of Critique Guided Designing in digitizing border technologies and independently subjecting the same procedures in testing and turning them into international trends may eliminate or diminish the terror as a latent consequence.
